Legends Re-opens After 20 Years
Buddy Guys Legends is finally reopening its doors 20 years after it was forced out of its original building in 1999. The new Chicago location is celebrating its grand re-opening during the entire month of June.
The original Buddy Guy’s Legends opened in 1989. For twenty years, it built its reputation as the premier blues club. In 1999, the building was anonymously donated to Columbia College. The search for a new location has been underway since, and now 20 years later Buddy Guy was approached with the opportunity to purchase a building at 700 S. Wabash Ave, making him the owner and sole proprietor of the new Buddy Guy’s Legends!
The new space also came with a few requirements from Guy himself, “The main stage had to be on the first floor with a corner entry, must house a first class kitchen, an expansion of the southern-inspired menu and the decor had to match the original with blue walls and a checkerboard patterned floor,: explaining that, “A blues club is kind of old and funky.”
